Life After Graduation

I studied business administration/marketing in college and graduated this past June. My degree is considered a career diploma which allows me to skip university and enter the workforce right away since it was a technical/hands on type of program. Most of my graduating class moved on to university after we finished our college diploma; I decided that university was not for me.

The main reason why I decided not to attend university was because I plan on being my own boss for any career I may follow. Getting a university diploma didn’t seem necessary as I wouldn’t be getting it to show an employer in the future, I’d be showing it to myself in the mirror. I didn’t want to further my career as a student because I couldn’t envision myself staying in school for another three or four years to finish the program. I get very stressed while in school because I’m hard on myself when it comes to succeeding and getting good grades. I hate writing tests and university didn’t seem the right fit for me. If I didn’t see myself completing the whole program, I didn’t think there was a point to attend for a semester or two. I simply did not and still don’t have the motivation to complete more schooling.

This is my first semester not being a student and I can honestly say that I am loving every moment of it. I work full time at a job that I absolutely love, my business is launched and available to shop on, I have two side jobs and I am the happiest I have ever been. I do not regret my decision one bit and I don’t think I see myself going back to school any time soon. I thought that maybe if I wanted to further my education I could take some online courses but I don’t even think I see myself doing that right now either. So far, life after graduation has been amazing as I finally feel like I am doing what I’m meant to do and I’m confident that I’ve made the right decision for myself.

I hope this article helps anyone out there who’s questioning whether they should continue schooling or enter the workforce. My best advice is to do what makes you happy and less stressed. Do what you need to do, school isn’t everything and if you think you could be doing more with your life and time without school, then go ahead and start your life! I’m grateful to have such supportive parents and I’m aware that it’s not the same situation for everyone, but you truly need to do what makes YOU happy, it’s your life to live.
